studio ATARA were appointed to design a fresh and exciting scheme for an irregular shaped 7th floor luxury modern apartment, that had lacked any real character. The essence of the overall brief was for a calm, zen, naturalistic environment, with the need for stylish, character quirks. A strong emphasis was put on raw, non toxic materials, with sustainability at the heart of every aspect within the design. With an impressive balcony affording stunning views, the property had an affinity with the outdoors which gave a certain added energy to the main living area. Dusty, muted pops of colour and natural textures were added to bring life into the once plain, generic interiors.
 
Remodelling and clever space planning was hugely important for the clients and their 2 young children within the whole apartment, which lacked any right angled corners! This included ample storage by way of stylish yet sustainable joinery design and most importantly, transforming the poorly laid out, cramped, dark kitchen area, into a vibrant, inspiring space that was strong on both function, as well as form. Following the concept and initial design for the kitchen area, we worked with Antoine Guivarch at Concordia Interiors to bring his first class, sustainable, joinery design & build detailing into the mix. Here he used his unique, bespoke, natural oiled, solid wood joinery, spray finishing the doors in Graphenstone natural paint for a soft and beautiful contrast to the tri-ply end framework. Also adding the pull up worktop extension and dining table in the reading corner to give flexibility in these crucial areas.
 
Low level living was the key for the family who wanted to have multifunctional spaces for eating, working, relaxing, exercising and socialising together. Being ethically aware of impact and environment, our clients live a very healthy, holistic life, which has been perfectly reflected throughout, in many of the design choices made.
